About this camp

The Intrepid Museum All Access Maker Camp offers children and teens with developmental disabilities, including autism, a unique week of hands-on exploration and innovation. Campers delve into engaging design challenges inspired by ships, aircraft, and space, fostering creativity and critical thinking. The program emphasizes the development of essential social-emotional skills, such as problem-solving, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork, within a supportive and inclusive environment. Participants gain practical experience by experimenting with a diverse range of tools and technologies, from traditional low-tech materials like LEGOs, clay, and craft supplies to advanced high-tech equipment including robotics kits, computer-assisted design software, and 3D printers. This allows them to design, build, and innovate their own projects. Campers also benefit from exclusive behind-the-scenes access and opportunities to interact with museum experts. For returning participants, the Camp 2.0 session provides an opportunity to expand on initial challenges, revisit and master tools, and explore favorite topics in greater depth, ensuring continued growth and discovery.
