The program combines academic lessons with hands-on projects, providing exposure to an engineering environment and structured instruction from NYU Tandon School of Engineering faculty.
The NYU Tandon Summer Program for Machine Learning introduces high school students to the foundational computer science, data analysis, mathematical techniques, and logic that drive machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Participants delve into core principles of ML, including model development through cross-validation, linear regressions, and neural networks. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on programming and practical application, allowing students to understand how logic and mathematics are applied to teach computers to perform tasks and continuously improve. Lessons cover the fundamental knowledge behind real-world applications such as video and image recognition, interactive voice controls, autonomous vehicles, real-time monitoring, traffic control, and cutting-edge diagnostic medical technologies. Students engage in daily assignments and weekly projects, fostering engineering problem-solving skills to tackle societal challenges.
Students attend classes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with scheduled time each day to work independently or collaboratively on daily assignments and weekly projects.
Academically strong high school students who have completed Algebra 2 and have some programming experience, and are interested in building a foundation in machine learning and AI.
