About this camp

The NYU Tandon SPARC (Summer Program for Automation Robotics and Coding) is a two-week, full-day intensive designed for rising 9th through 12th-grade high school students interested in robotics, mechatronics, and programming. Participants engage in extensive hands-on activities, building and programming interactive robotic devices using microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators. The curriculum introduces foundational programming skills, including variables, conditionals, loops, and binary code, alongside core concepts in electrical and mechanical engineering, circuitry, and automation systems. Students gain practical experience by manipulating components from a provided robotics kit and applying theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. The program culminates in robot competitions and challenges, where students test their creations and develop skills in design thinking, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. No prior robotics experience is required, making it accessible for academically motivated beginners to explore advanced technical skills and deepen their understanding of technology.

What a typical day looks like

Students engage in approximately 6 hours of classes daily, focusing on hands-on robotics projects, programming exercises, and learning core engineering concepts, often culminating in competitive challenges.

Best suited for

The program is ideal for academically strong high school students (rising 9th-12th graders) with a keen interest in robotics, automation, and coding, who are eager to gain practical, project-based experience.
