Students are mentored by active airline pilots in an FAA-approved flight simulator, providing realistic training that can count towards future pilot certificates.
Aviator.NYC's Youth Aviation Program offers an immersive flight training experience for kids ages 8 to 17, utilizing an FAA-approved Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) with Garmin G1000 avionics. The program is structured across 42 lessons in three stages, each focusing on a specific skill during 20-minute sessions. Students learn fundamental controls like the yoke, throttle, rudder pedals, flaps, and trim, and practice maneuvers such as straight-and-level flight, turns, climbs, and descents. As they progress, participants delve into advanced skills including traffic patterns, navigation, radio communications, cross-country flight planning, and instrument basics. The curriculum emphasizes real aviation skills, discipline, and confidence through structured lessons and FAA-approved procedures, preparing students for potential Private Pilot training. All lessons are taught by active airline pilot instructors in a realistic training environment, not a game or toy simulator. Parents are welcome to observe sessions.
A typical session involves a pre-flight briefing, hands-on simulator training focusing on specific flight skills, and a post-flight debrief with an airline pilot instructor.
This program is ideal for young students aged 8-17 interested in exploring aviation fundamentals and careers, who benefit from structured, hands-on learning with professional airline pilots.
