About this camp

The Cooper Union Summer STEM program offers high school students an intensive, hands-on experience in college-level engineering and computer science. Participants engage in projects ranging from robotics and digital fabrication to computer programming and app development, and even racecar design. Students learn to apply the engineering design process, develop problem-solving skills, and create real solutions for climate and social impact. The curriculum includes coding in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, and React.js, as well as exploring microcontrollers like Arduino and ESP32 for building wirelessly connected sensor systems and IoT prototypes. Students gain practical experience through rapid prototyping, 3D modeling in OnShape, and fabricating custom projects with 3D printers. The program culminates in a "Life's a Pitch" competition where students present their prototypes and compete for seed funding.
