About this camp

The NYU Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) Summer is a 5-week pre-college enrichment program for talented and motivated middle and high school students in NYC from historically underrepresented backgrounds in STEM. The program aims to foster interest in STEM careers, prepare students for selective colleges, and increase the number of low-income or first-generation students in STEM fields. Students engage in immersive STEM courses, project-based learning, research opportunities, and college preparation. The curriculum includes morning enrichment classes in math (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC) and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and Environmental Science), along with an English seminar to develop critical thinking and written communication skills. Afternoon sessions involve project-based learning exploring interdisciplinary themes in internet technologies, art and design, engineering, publishing, clinical medicine, and math and science careers. High school juniors and seniors also receive college test prep, career exploration seminars, and mentorship, while 11th and 12th graders undertake research projects or service-learning projects and present their findings at conferences or the annual NYU Expo. The program is led by NYU faculty and co-taught by NYU students, providing access to NYU facilities like laboratories and libraries.
