The NYU Tandon DII (Design, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship) program is a two-week, full-day summer program that introduces high school students to the fundamental principles of innovation in science and engineering. Students learn how to use rapid prototyping tools and computer-aided design (CAD) modeling. They conduct fieldwork to identify problems and gain hands-on experience at NYU Tandon's Makerspace, designing and building solutions to these problems. The program emphasizes teaching transferable practical engineering skills and a framework for innovation applicable to future projects and careers. Students will combine these skills through a capstone project where they design, build, and present a working prototype, showcasing their creativity, problem-solving, and technical abilities. The curriculum also covers understanding what makes innovations succeed or fail, using real-world examples from various fields like transportation, medicine, and electronics.
Students attend classes Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with scheduled time each day for independent or collaborative work on assignments and projects.
