Students receive professional training from Tisch faculty, with a curriculum that follows the first-year undergraduate program, and earn college credits.
The NYU Tisch Summer High School Dance Track is an intensive four-week pre-college program designed for high school sophomores and juniors. The curriculum mirrors the first-year undergraduate program at Tisch, offering rigorous technical training, choreography, and performance opportunities. Students engage in daily classes focusing on contemporary dance techniques, ballet, yoga, and Pilates, emphasizing healthy movement and efficient body use. They also explore creative research in dance, developing new choreography through movement generation and spatial/temporal exploration. The program incorporates learning existing repertory from established New York City-based dance artists and delves into newer areas of dance research like kinesiology and dance science. The program culminates in a final studio showing for faculty, family, and friends, and students earn six college credits.
Students participate in full-day training and classes from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with attendance at dance performances in the evenings. Weekends include special workshops, rehearsals, and guest dance company lectures and demonstrations.
This program is ideal for high school sophomores and juniors with a passion for dance who are seeking rigorous, pre-professional training and a glimpse into college-level dance studies.
