About this camp

The Engineering the Next Generation (ENG) program at Columbia University offers academically competitive high school juniors and seniors a six-week summer research experience. Students engage in genuine engineering research projects alongside Columbia faculty and graduate student mentors, gaining practical research experience and exposure to lab culture. The program includes research skills and college preparation workshops, science communications workshops, and additional seminars. Participants develop academic and professional skills, collaborate with faculty and students, and practice new skills. ENG offers two tracks: Foundations of Research (FoR) and the Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3) My Streetscape Summer Research Institute, which includes interdisciplinary engineering and social science research. Students are provided with a stipend for their participation.

What a typical day looks like

Students work with Columbia Engineering researchers on projects and participate in daily research skills and science communications workshops.

Best suited for

The program is ideal for highly motivated rising NYC seniors (current 11th graders) with a strong interest in engineering and research, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
