This program uniquely focuses on the intersection of AI and art, allowing students to co-create media with AI and build creative robots.
The AI+ART High School Summer Program at NYU Steinhardt is a two-week intensive program designed for high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in Fall 2026. Students will explore how generative AI models are used in creative fields, their social and ethical implications, and engage in hands-on activities to create art-making tools and creative robots. The curriculum covers foundational generative AI models, their applications in visual art, music, animations, and prose, and the basics of machine learning algorithms and neural networks. Students will develop and modify AI algorithms for their art practice and learn about the history and real-world applications of generative AI in various creative industries. The program aims to provide fundamental creative AI knowledge, experience using AI tools, and a portfolio of media co-created with AI.
Students engage in hands-on learning activities, using AI tools for art-making, developing and modifying AI algorithms, and discussing the future implications of AI in art.
This program is well-suited for high school students interested in using emerging technology for art-making, with a preferred background in artistic practice and Python programming.
